The craftsmanship is in the details.

At 9 a.m. on December 10th, a crisp north wind blew, but the sun was shining. A reporter traveled by car to Taiyuan Silian Heavy Industry Co., Ltd., located in the integrated reform zone, and met Chi Xuefeng, the head of the product R&D department, born in 1989. He is of medium build, with a round face and slightly dark skin, appearing quite sturdy. On his desk were two computer screens; he was checking drawings and typing on the keyboard, occasionally making phone calls, speaking in a slightly local accent, at a steady pace, sounding very calm.
Silian Heavy Industry is a privately owned joint-stock enterprise in our city, focusing on the design and manufacture of coking equipment. As a designer, this year marks Chi Xuefeng's 8th year at the company, having grown from an ordinary product designer to the head of the product R&D department. He is dedicated and meticulous in his work, showing a fascination with the study of each component.
Building a Solid Foundation from Scratch
Good steel is not made in a day, and good technology cannot be mastered overnight. In 2012, when Chi Xuefeng first joined Silian Heavy Industry, he was a novice. Although he majored in mechanical manufacturing in college, he found upon joining the company that the knowledge he learned in school was far from the skills required for the job, and everything had to start from scratch.
At that time, his mentor, Master Su, whom everyone respectfully called Engineer Su, was very strict with Chi Xuefeng, demanding perfection in his work. "He often said that in product design, designing components is fundamental and crucial. A machine is composed of millions of parts. Only with perfect component design and manufacturing can the entire machine run smoothly. Only by treating each component seriously can one be treated well by the machine." Chi Xuefeng kept his mentor's teachings firmly in mind.
In his spare time, Chi Xuefeng continued to study, reading the book "Principles of Machinery" countless times. He knew that mechanical theory is fundamental, and to become a qualified designer, a solid foundation is crucial.
For three years, Chi Xuefeng worked and studied simultaneously. Because he was engaged in product design, the work was quite tedious and mentally demanding. "When encountering technical difficulties or bottlenecks without solutions, working overtime or even pulling all-nighters was commonplace." said Chi Xuefeng. It was through such hard work that he accumulated a wealth of experience in mechanical design, processing, manufacturing, and assembly.
